Finding M.D, Stevens of the Mikey Center
is nothing short of a miracle. My family and I feel we are
truly blessed and look forward to a long, unbreakable friendship
with her.
My grandson, Giovanni, was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy over
2 years ago. He will be 3 on March 18th of this year. Needless
to say, it hasn't been easy for any of us to accept this.
We have all pulled together to give each other strength and
encouragement throughout this ordeal, but it wasn't until
M.D. and I found each other that the true benefits of hyperbaric
therapy proved itself to be miraculous!
Gio had his first 6 hours in the chamber back in December
of 2008. While none of us really expected to see any changes
yet, Gio proved it otherwise. Approximately 2 weeks after
the treatment, my family and I starting comparing notes as
to the differences we each saw in him. Mind you, that was
only after 6 hours. We all agreed that he was indeed more
relaxed, had fewer muscle spasms and was a happier child.
But the real surprises were yet to come.
Gio and his daddy spent a week in Sarasota in January doing
as many hours as possible and his mom and I switched off with
him to do another week. This time he had done approximately
40 more hours but the results were evident in about a week
after coming home. Weight gain is a problem in many children
with CP and Gio was a poster child for kids who don't want
to eat. But that has changed drastically. This boy is now
eating as if he hadn't eaten his whole life and can really
put the food away. He eats several times a day and has gained
at least 3 pounds since his last session. That may not sound
like a lot of weight but when you have a child who has been
stuck at 21 pounds for the past year, it's a lot! The next
option was going to be a feeding tube and I personally hated
that idea. Maybe that's what got me fired up about an alternative
treatment.
Anyway, while Gio had spoken a few times in the past, mainly
repeating what he hears and never letting anyone see him do
it, he now says things on his own. His best line yet was "Oh,
my God!". Quite befitting considering the situation.
His neck and back have grown stronger, too, and can sit unsupported
for a longer period of time and this is only going to improve.
His whole attitude has changed and while he was always a pleasant
little boy to be around, when he says your name or makes you
laugh it's absolutely priceless! He can call out your name
and20if you don't see him do it, he laughs when you beg him
to say it again!
These are only a few changes but each one of them are more
precious than platinum. I know in my heart that he will not
be in a wheelchair because he has grown so much stronger since
starting the hyperbaric treatments and I am one who truly
believes in miracle s. If there is a spark, there CAN be a
flame. I've seen this for myself.

MY NAME
IS DEB AND I AM 52 YEARS OLD. IN 2005 I SUFFERED A CLOSED
HEAD INJURY DUE TO A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT. I HAVE BECOME DISABLED
DUE TO THIS INJURY. WHILE SEVERAL OPERATIONS HAVE FIXED MY
LEG ENOUGH SO THAT I CAN GET AROUND FINE WITH NO PAIN, I STILL
SUFFER THE EFFECTS OF THE HEAD INJURY.
I RECENTLY BEGAN SEEING A DIFFERENT NEUROLOGIST
WHO THOUGHT HE COULD HELP ME. THIS WAS EXCITING AS ALL OF
MY OTHER DOCTORS HAD TOLD ME I HAD PRETTY MUCH RECOVERED ALL
I WAS GOING TO AND WOULD HAVE TO RELEARN WHAT WAS NOT WORKING
CORRECTLY. THE NEW NEUROLOGIST RECOMMENDED AN IMPROVED DIET,
VARIOUS SUPPLEMENTS AND PRESCRIBED 30 HOURS IN A HYPERBARIC
CHAMBER.
I BEGAN VISITING THE MIKEY CENTER ON MAY 7TH
AND SO FAR HAVE COMPLETED 4 SESSIONS. I AM STARTING TO NOTICE
SOME CHANGES.
THE HEAD INJURY CAUSED ME TO LOSE MY APPETITE
AS WELL AS MOST OF MY SENSE OF SMELL AND TASTE. MY HUSBAND
WOULD HAVE TO TELL ME TO EAT OR I WOULDN’T. SINCE STARTING
THE SESSIONS MY APPETITE HAS IMPROVED. (I GET FLASHES OF SMELL
AND TASTE AND HOPE THEY RETURN FULLY.)
I HAVE LOADS OF ENERGY SINCE STARTING THE
SESSIONS. THIS WEEK I HAD TO STOP TAKING ONE OF MY PRESCRIBED
STIMULANTS AT NIGHT BECAUSE I COULDN’T GO TO SLEEP.
THE HBOT ENHANCES THE EFFECT OF MEDICATIONS.
I HAVE NOTICED SOME SMALL IMPROVEMENTS IN
MY SHORT TERM MEMORY AND MY ABILITY TO THINK QUICKLY. WHEN
JOKING WITH MY HUSBAND AT LEAST TWICE RECENTLY I HAVE COME
RIGHT BACK AT HIM WITH A SNAPPY COMEBACK.
I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MORE IMPROVEMENTS.
MY COORDINATION AND FINE MOTOR CONTROL IS STILL OFF. MY BRAIN
PROCESSING SPEED IS STILL MUCH SLOWER THAN PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT.
I CONTINUE TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS IN MY SPEECH ABILITY. I AM
HOPING THAT CONTINUED SESSIONS IN THE HBOT CHAMBER WILL ALLOW
ME TO EASILY RETRIEVE INFORMATION STORED IN MY BRAIN LIKE
I USE TO.
I FIND THE SESSIONS VERY RELAXING. ONCE IT
GETS TO THE HIGHER ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE AND I CLEAR MY EARS
I TYPICALLY GO TO SLEEP FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SESSION.
